DQ400e – the DSG gearbox in plug-in hybrids
The DQ400e (code 0DD) is a 6-speed wet-clutch DSG used in Volkswagen Group plug-in hybrids such as the Golf GTE, Passat GTE and Audi A3 e-tron.
There is a preventive service for its known fault: the K0 solenoid service costs €950 at IVERA.
Known problem: the K0 solenoid seal strainer
Because of hybrid operation, the DQ400e has an extra K0 clutch that connects the combustion engine to the drivetrain. The strainer in the seal of the K0 solenoid that controls this clutch can come loose, which causes gearbox malfunctions.
The fault is easier and cheaper to prevent in advance than to repair once the gearbox has started to show symptoms. That is why we recommend the preventive service to plug-in hybrid owners.

DQ400e service
The DQ400e has a wet clutch, and its oil and filter are changed according to the manufacturer’s schedule, typically every 60,000 km. In hybrids the combustion engine starts and stops often, which also strains the K0 clutch and its control – so the gearbox condition deserves attention.
