NOx sensor replacement in Espoo
We replace NOx sensors on diesel cars and diagnose AdBlue (SCR) system faults – including Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Seat TDI engines.
We confirm the fault with diagnostics before replacing parts, because the same warning can also come from the AdBlue pump, injector or fluid quality.

What is a NOx sensor?
A NOx sensor measures the nitrogen oxide content of the exhaust gas. In modern AdBlue diesel cars (Euro 6) the sensors usually sit before and after the SCR catalytic converter: the engine management uses them to control AdBlue dosing and to check that the exhaust is cleaned enough. When a sensor stops working, the system can no longer verify emissions.
The service includes
- Fault code reading and SCR system diagnostics
- Check of the NOx sensor and its control unit
- Sensor replacement and required adaptations with diagnostic equipment
- AdBlue system check (pump, injector, fluid quality)
- Fault memory clearing and test drive
Symptoms of a faulty NOx sensor
- Engine warning light or AdBlue/emissions system warning
- A message that the engine cannot be started after a certain distance (AdBlue countdown)
- The engine goes into limp mode or loses power
- Fault codes such as P2200–P2209, P229F or the SCR efficiency code P20EE
- The emissions test or the OBD check at the annual inspection fails
A NOx sensor fault is usually not immediately harmful to the engine, but once the countdown ends the car may not restart. That is why the fault should be fixed as soon as the warning appears.

Frequently asked questions
Can I drive with a faulty NOx sensor?
Usually for a short while, but many AdBlue cars show a countdown on the dashboard, after which the engine cannot be started. Book a time as soon as the warning comes on.
Do you replace NOx sensors on VW and Audi TDI engines?
Yes. We replace NOx sensors on all makes, including AdBlue-equipped Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Seat TDI engines, and do the required adaptations after the replacement.
Should a NOx sensor be cleaned?
Usually not. A NOx sensor fault is normally an internal fault in the sensor or its control electronics that cleaning will not fix. Diagnostics confirm whether the fault is in the sensor or elsewhere in the AdBlue system.
How much does a NOx sensor replacement cost?
A NOx sensor replacement costs from €390 at IVERA (incl. sensor, labour and adaptation). Sensor prices vary by model – you get the exact price by registration number.
