BMW battery replacement and coding in Espoo

On newer BMWs a battery replacement is not just a parts swap: the car’s energy management has to be told about the new battery, so the battery is registered and, if needed, coded with diagnostic equipment.

We do the replacement and registration in one visit – including Minis and the 12-volt batteries of BMW hybrids.

Signs of a weak battery in a BMW

  • The engine cranks slowly, especially in frost
  • A battery discharge or increased battery discharge message on the dashboard
  • Start-Stop no longer switches the engine off
  • Electrical equipment cuts out or the central display restarts

We test the battery before replacing it – sometimes the cause is the alternator, a parasitic drain while parked or a poor earth connection instead.

Frequently asked questions

Does a BMW battery need to be registered after replacement?

Yes, on most BMWs built after 2005. Registration tells the charging management that the battery is new, so the charging voltage is correct and the battery lasts.

Can I replace a BMW battery myself?

You can swap the battery yourself, but registration or coding needs diagnostic equipment. Without registration a new battery can wear out quickly. We do both in one visit.

Where is the BMW battery – and where can I charge the car?

In many BMWs the battery is in the boot or under the rear seat. For jump-starting there are separate terminals in the engine bay where you can charge or start the car.

How much does a BMW battery replacement cost?

Battery replacement labour and registration costs €89 plus the battery. The battery price depends on type (AGM or EFB) and size. Registration or coding only, if you replaced the battery yourself: €59.
