Why do DSG gearboxes fail?
DSG is the Volkswagen Group dual-clutch gearbox used in Volkswagen, Audi (S tronic), Skoda, Seat and Cupra models. Its heart is the mechatronic unit – the control unit that operates the clutches and gears hydraulically. Typical faults are pressure and hydraulic faults in the mechatronic unit, valve and sensor faults, and clutch wear.

Repair or replacement?
When a DSG fault appears, many workshops recommend replacing the whole mechatronic unit or gearbox. It is a quick solution for the workshop but expensive for the customer. In most cases the fault is in a single part – such as the pressure sensors, valves or seals – and it can be repaired.
